I Have A Quick Question

  • We understand if you're a little confused. The Pilates School offers a novel and innovative approach to making Classical Pilates accessible for everyone. Our unique structure is why you won't "just find a reformer class" or a random Pilates class to fit your work schedule.

  • We do not offer quick fixes or watered-down, non-replicable workouts. The secret to our success is teaching you the skill of a complete Classical Pilates practice through education, dedication, a personalized training plan, and, most importantly, consistency.

General School Questions
What is The Pilates School?

The school combines classical Pilates education, accessible movement, and structured pathways for both personal practice and professional training.

Why is acceditation important?

The school serves people new to Pilates, students seeking a deeper practice, and those considering teacher training or continuing education. Accreditation means our programs have been evaluated to ensure they meet high standards for student learning and measurable results. Our programs are consistent, overseen by an educator Curriculum Committee, yet offer personalized options. Completion of our enrollment-based programs may offer transferable units for further professional education.

Do I need prior Pilates experience?

No. The school is designed to support different entry points, from first-time students to more advanced participants.

Drop-in and Custom Programs
How do I know which class to start with in the Drop-in Program?

We highly recommend you start with a strictly Classical Pilates class like Mat, Auxiliary equipment, or Pilates + Props. Then, stick to the Level I Drop-in classes for at least your intro pack. Feel free to ask any teacher if you are ready to try higher level classes!

Can I transfer to an enrollment-based program from the Drop-in program?

Yes! We expect your body's needs to change, so we've created a seamless system for you to transfer between programs based on those needs. You can usually move between programs with little to no notice (up to 30 days).

How do I know if I need a private session?

While everyone can benefit from private sessions, some must do privates for their safety. Common reasons include: learning new exercises or corrective exercises, pregnancy, chronic illness, recovering from an injury, and personal preference.

How do I know which level of teacher I need?

It's simple! If you are relatively healthy, a teacher-in-training to graduate teacher is a great and affordable fit for most. Nearly all of our teachers-in-training are observed or advised by a teacher trainer, who is usually an expert teacher. So, you get the best of both worlds!
If you have more complex body issues, consider a Lead Teacher who specializes in your body's specific needs. Consider an Expert Teacher if you have a serious body issue that can cause high pain levels or a movement pattern that needs close attention to be permanently corrected.

Private session are expensive! Is their a more afforable altervative?

Yes! If you have a relatively health body consider taking sessions from a teacher-in-training. Many are overseen by an expert teacher with rate 25% less than a lead teacher.

Enrollment based Program for Personal Enrichment
What are the steps to enroll in the In Person or At Home Program?

Purchase an intro pack and take classes, indicating your interest in the In-Person/At Home program in your Wellness Living profile. An enrollment team member will contact you as directed in your profile to schedule your assessment private session and enrollment meeting. The enrollment meeting will outline your 6-to-12-month personalized plan based on your drop-in class and small group private assessment. In-person students will pay their first month's dues and receive student materials and At Home Lite props upon their official start date (usually the first Monday of the month). You will be assigned an adviser who will check in with you regularly throughout your initial Pre-Pilates course.

Help me understand the value in the In-Person and At Home Programs

This program teaches you the "skill" of Pilates tailored to YOUR body. You gain access to equipment-based group training a minimum of 3-4 times a week, regardless of your chosen tier, for one affordable monthly rate. This is not just a single reformer or tower class; it's complete access to the entire repertoire of Classical Pilates and all associated equipment. Furthermore, once cleared, you are granted access to the equipment for your self-guided workouts, again included in the same monthly rate. Every lesson is focused on educating you about your body, Pilates exercises, and how to customize and modify for your needs, empowering you to create your own workouts without needing to pay for group classes again.

How At Home Differs from In-Person?

Equipment: In-Person uses classical equipment; At Home is completely virtual using lite props to simulate the equipment. Level: The In-Person program teaches up to the high intermediate level of Classical Pilates; the At Home program stops at low intermediate. Graduate Access: At Home program graduates are granted access to Graduate-level membership, allowing them to book any classical equipment for self-practice (Open Studio), but only after completing an In-Person bridge program.

Teacher Training Questions
Is teacher training only for advanced students?

No and Yes. We offer introductory certificates for beginners just starting their Pilates journey (Pre-Pilates to low intermediate levels). We also offer one-time Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for interested students who aren't certified. However, to start our comprehensive certification program, you must be at the intermediate level in Classical Pilates. If you are not, you will be admitted provisionally to complete a section or the entirety of the In-Person School first, guaranteeing you later acceptance into the Teacher Certification program.

Are there full-time and part-time options?

Yes, view the training schedule here. Full-time: Requires 16 hours a week on-site (including 3 hours of personal workout). Typically completed in 12–14 months. Part-Time: Requires 8 hours a week (including 2 hours of personal workout). Typically completed in 24–36 months.

How much does the certification cost?

The certification costs $11,500 for both full-time and part-time students. This includes all training costs, private sessions, classes, labs, observation, and exams. The only separate cost is $640 for student materials, broken up over four courses (Pre-Pilates, Basic, Inter I, and Inter II). Regardless if you award a scholarship all students must pay the deposit and materials costs. ($1,180.00 + $640.00)

Is there Financial Assistance for the teacher certification program?

Yes, we offer various financial products you can apply for with your initial application: Scholarships, work-study, trade-in-kind, and cost-of-living grants. Most students receive about 50% of their tuition covered by one of these options.

Is there housing assistance?

Yes, we offer affordable room rentals in one of the two residences owned by The Pilates School. This housing is set aside exclusively for full-time students for up to three consecutive semesters.

Is there job placement after I graduate

Yes. The demand for Classical Pilates teachers is high, and you will likely receive job offers locally, nationally, and internationally. The Pilates School coordinates job interviews and offers its top 15% of students permanent teaching positions within one of its schools or affiliate locations (SF, NYC, Costa Rica).

Are there Professional Development opportunities

Starting June 2026, we will offer a full range of accredited professional development, including one-time seminars and workshops, Advanced Systems comprehensive certifications, multi-year teacher mentorships, and business incubators for those seeking to open their own studio.
