The Learning Framework

Every system follows six essential steps.

  1. Lecture series
  2. Exercise review and Pilates laboratories
  3. Observation and hands-on case studies
  4. Supervised student teaching
  5. Presentations and examinations
  6. Student Services check-in before advancement

Course Progression

From foundational observation to professional apprenticeship

01

Pre-Pilates

Begin with on-demand lectures, guided worksheets, labs, observation, case studies, and practice teaching. Students progress from teaching fellow interns to working with Pre-Pilates clients, then complete written and practical assessments.

02

Basic System

Build a detailed command of Basic exercises and their variations. Coursework emphasizes intercultural communication, teaching diverse bodies, and advancing a Pre-Pilates client safely into the Basic system.

03

Intermediate I

At approximately 1,000 completed hours, students begin supervised studio teaching. After trainer approval, apprentices may teach independently while developing structured programs and selecting comprehensive case-study clients.

04

Intermediate II

Function as a full apprentice: teach with initiative, work with intermediate clients, review the complete system, finalize case studies, document all hours, and prepare for the comprehensive evaluation.

Competency Before Calendar

Students advance when they are ready.

The program is designed as a two-year pathway, but advancement depends on demonstrated competency—not simply keeping pace with a cohort. Teacher trainers use checklists, observations, and examinations to protect teaching quality and student safety.

2,100-Hour Matrix

Most training happens through active practice.

The certification matrix balances academic study with extensive laboratories, case studies, and 700 hours of practice teaching. Core values—integrity, humility, and responsibility—are evaluated throughout the entire program.

Comprehensive Evaluation

Graduation readiness requires complete, demonstrated work.

After completing required hours, coursework, worksheets, and the Intermediate II exercise record, students begin the certification test-out process.

1

Three filmed client case studies, including a 30-session plan for one client

2

Closed-book comprehensive written examination

3

Filmed private-session practical teaching demonstration

4

Live observation of Mat and Equipment classes

5

Five hours of job-placement mentorship

Completed documentation is reviewed by the governance board before its final certification vote. Certified students may then apply for the commitment and commencement ceremonies.

Graduation Recognition

Four levels recognize academic achievement.

Graduate

80% or higher across coursework.

Honors

85% or higher, plus a governance presentation earning 90% or higher.

High Honors

90% or higher, plus a publishable educational project.

Distinction

95% or higher, an A-level governance presentation, publication by the school, and submission to a reputable industry or peer-reviewed publication.

Beyond Certification

Mentorship continues into a sustainable career.

In-House Mentorship

Graduate faculty set annual development priorities and long-term career goals, supported by structured reviews with Student Services.

Satellite Mentorship

Graduates working at partner studios receive the same goal-setting and review structure in coordination with their studio and The Pilates School.

Business Incubator

Beginning spring 2028, eligible graduates interested in studio ownership may enter a five-year planning pathway focused on operations, funding, and opening a sustainable Pilates business.

Professional Network

Partnerships create opportunities.

The school cultivates relationships with Classical Pilates studios, fitness centers, physical-therapy practices, gyms, and wellness organizations to expand employment, observation, and continuing-development opportunities for graduates.
